Ad-Hoc Committee – Expression of Interest
SLP Advance Practice Advisory Committee (Ad-hoc)
ACSLPA is seeking an advanced authorization for a subset of SLPs with the requisite skills and experience to order ionizing radiation for the purposes of Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS). Although this work commenced in 2015, it unfortunately had to be placed on hold while the government focused on significant amendments to the Health Professions Act. Now that these amendments have been completed, ACSLPA is once again looking to pursue the advanced authorization.
We are looking for 2-3 speech-language pathologists with current experience in the realm of dysphagia assessment and management to join the advisory group. A major focus in the coming months (fall 2023) will be the development of a standard of practice focused on the advanced authorization. Considerations re: an exam to accompany the learning modules that have been developed to obtain the authorization will be another component of the work of the committee, as will finalization of an updated proposal package which will be shared with Alberta Health.
Terms of Reference are available for review. We are seeking participation from regulated members across rural and urban areas of the province with both pediatric and adult experience. Individuals with and without VFSS experience will be considered, however dysphagia experience is required.
It is anticipated that the advisory group will meet virtually at least once monthly over 3-4 months in order to develop the draft standards of practice in a timely manner. The intensity of committee involvement may decrease as elements of the proposal are completed.
