ACSLPA recognizes the existence and impact of systemic discrimination within the contexts that we operate and regulated members practice.
Inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility are shared values reflected in ACSLPA’s Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics, and values that regulated members, staff and volunteers are expected to uphold. Regulated members are also expected to be informed of, and practice in accordance with the requirements for anti-discriminatory practice, regardless of their role, practice area, or practice setting.
ACSLPA IDEA Committee
ACSLPA’s standing IDEA committee (formerly the ARADA – Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination – committee) has been operational since September 2020. This committee is comprised of ACSLPA regulated members and ACSLPA staff members.
This committee is responsible for:
- Conducting targeted reviews of existing ACSLPA key College documents, policies, and procedures to determine impact on marginalized groups and formulating solutions to mitigate any negative and/or differential impacts,
- Providing input into the development of new key College documents, policies, and procedures to identify, address, and minimize any differential and/or negative impacts on marginalized groups.
- Providing input into the development of the College’s inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility resources for regulated members (e.g., webinars, training for staff, Council, and Committee members).
- Maintaining an awareness of current issues around inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility resources in the professions, and proposing ideas on how the College may address them within its mandate.
Many of the resources developed by the IDEA Committee can be found under the ‘Resources’
