Supervisor Accountability
At the beginning of the supervised practice period:
- Supervisee’s qualifications (e.g., academic coursework, clinical practicum hours) have been reviewed by ACSLPA as meeting entry to practice requirements.
- Supervisee will have passed an ACSLPA approved entry to practice exam.
- Supervisee will have been issued a conditional practice permit allowing them to engage in any professional activities under the scope of practice for their profession.
- Many supervisees will already have work experience in their profession.
Supervisors support and assist the conditional registrant to become a successful and independent practitioner in Alberta.
Supervisors provide socialization into the professional culture of their profession.
- i.e., helping the conditional registrant (who may be new to the profession and/or new to Canada) to acquire knowledge of the rules, roles, professional responsibilities, and expectations of their profession within the Alberta context.
Supervisors provide direct and indirect supervision to assess and ensure competency across various domains of professional practice.
-
- See supervision agreement below for recommended amounts and progression of direct and indirect supervision.
