I am the coordinator of the SLPA program at Medicine Hat College (MHC). I have worked on interdisciplinary teams providing intervention as part of PUF, FSCD, and private therapy. I completed a three-year term as a board member for the MHC Child Care Society, participated on the ACSLPA Support Personnel Guideline and Supervision Standard of Practice ah hoc Committee, and serve as a member on the Therapist Assistant Program Advisory Committee.
I received my M.Sc. from the University of British Columbia in 2004 and my AuD from Salus University in 2010. Having worked as an audiologist in Alberta for 20 years, I have had the opportunity to work across the province in both private/public and urban/rural settings. I currently work in a hospital setting in Edmonton seeing children birth to 6 years of age, in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Over the years, I have also volunteered for various committees and working groups for the Alberta Association of Audiologists, Speech-Language Audiology Canada, ACSLPA, and AHS.
I have practiced as an SLP for 25 years, working in a variety of settings (i.e., early intervention, schools, homes, community), in both Canada and the USA. My area of specialty is service provision for autistic individuals and their families. More recently, I have transitioned into leadership roles, and I am the current Director of Professional and Community Services – South Region with Centre for Autism Services Alberta in Calgary. I have worked passionately to identify service gaps for people with autism and their families and I oversee program implementation and development based on community need.
I am a registered speech-language pathologist currently working with the Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD), where I support a diverse school-aged population through assessment and intervention services. I bring over 12 years of experience in the field of speech-language pathology.
Prior to joining FMPSD, I worked internationally as a post-secondary instructor in Inclusive Education. During this time, I also held leadership roles on several departmental committees.
I hold a PhD in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, where my research focused on learners in autism-specific schools and their families.
This is my second term serving on the council of ACSLPA, where I hope to bring a blend of clinical and academic insight, along with a strong commitment to professional excellence
