October 2026
Dear registrants,
I invite you to review the recently published results of ACSLPA’s 2026 Registrant Survey. Registrants’ responses help ACSLPA understand the perspectives and experiences of registrants, inform ACSLPA’s decision-making, evaluate the College’s effectiveness, and improve ACSLPA’s services.
I would like to thank the 299 registrants who generously took the time to share their perspectives, experience, and ideas. Your input helps the College become the innovative, proactive, and engaged regulator we aim to be.
“Regulation works well when it is in touch with and up to date with experiences and real world practice” – Harry Cayton & Kate Webb
As you will see registrants reported several improvements since 2024, including increases in perceptions of the College’s effectiveness in ensuring ongoing competence (+10%) and in investigating and resolving complaints about regulated members (+11%). In addition, 10% more registrants reported being satisfied with their most recent renewal experience.
In terms of areas for improvement, registrants continued to report the College’s Continuing Competence Program (CCP) requirements as one of their top three concerns with the renewal process. ACSLPA will be incorporating initiatives into our 2027 Annual Plan to respond to this feedback, including increasing awareness of supports for registrants participating in the CCP and sharing information about the purpose of and evidence base of ACSLPA’s CCP. Please consider signing up for the Lunch & Learn webinar on November 5 at 12:05pm, “Completing your Annual Continuing Competence Program (CCP) Submission: What Regulated Members Need to Know.”
Other significant changes reported by registrants include a 10% increase in the proportion of respondents who reported confidence in their knowledge of ACSLP’s Standards of Practice since 20224. This finding reflects Alberta’s audiologists’ and SLP’s diligence and deep commitment to providing safe, competent, and ethical care to Albertans.
In another area, 22% more respondents reporting using artificial intelligence (AI) to support the care they provide compared with 2024 and respondence expressed a desire for additional guidance from the College. This feedback highlights the rapid technological change registrants are adapting to and will help guide the College as we prepare for the first review of our Responsible Use of AI Guideline and plan for a 2027 webinar focused on AI in professional practice.
Finally, apart from our 2026 Registrant Survey, I would also like to acknowledge:
- The registrants who reached out to me with their feedback and ideas in response to the College’s email about the 2027 fee decrease and the challenges the College experiences when large numbers of registrants complete their renewals at the end of December. The feedback and ideas you submitted were shared with ACSLPA’s Council, and in 2027 Council and staff will be exploring several of your suggestions.
- The registrants and other key partners who provided feedback on our draft Guideline on Healthy Workspaces with Colleagues and draft Guideline on Service Termination.
Please accept my sincere appreciation for your engagement in the regulation of your profession and your commitment to the communication, hearing, balance and swallowing health of Albertans.
Warm regards,
Melanie
