About Us
The Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) exists to serve the public interest through the regulation of professional speech-language pathologists and audiologists in Alberta. ACSLPA’s regulatory work includes setting admission standards, considering applications for regulated membership and issuing practice permits, creating and enforcing a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, investigating complaints of unprofessional conduct, creating guidelines and practice documents, enforcing continuing competence standards, and more.
General Description
The Audiology Advisor engages with registrants and works collaboratively with ACSLPA staff to both support and advance professional practice in audiology, with a focus on regulatory considerations. The Audiology Advisor addresses registrant inquiries related to audiology issues and addresses public inquiries more broadly. They source relevant professional practice resources for registrants and develop key college documents that are informed by evidence, conceptual frameworks, professional standards of practice, and legislated requirements. The Audiology Advisor gains awareness of emerging trends and issues through contact with both registrants and external partners, addresses any regulatory issues, and contributes to the development of proactive plans and strategies by sharing this information with ACSLPA staff as required. They also add value to ACSLPA by providing input from an audiology perspective on strategic, operational and regulatory initiatives.
Regulatory training and an orientation will be provided to support the success of the selected candidate.
Duties & Key Responsibilities
Professional Practice Leadership & Engagement
- Addresses registrant and public inquiries and concerns in relation to:
- regulation and legislation
- ethical issues
- competent practice-including the application of standards and guidelines
- new and emerging areas of practice
- potential concerns and complaints, redirecting to the Complaints director, as appropriate.
- Engages with staff, registrants, and other key partners (as required) in the development, implementation, and evaluation of key College documents (e.g., standards, guidelines, advisory statements, protocols) and initiatives pertaining to professional practice.
- Leads projects related to document development and other initiatives, as assigned.
Continuing Competence
- Works collaboratively with ACLSPA staff and Competence Committee members on audits and assessments.
- Collaborates with other staff to address member inquiries and concerns in relation to the Competence Program.
Registration
- Supports the evaluation of applications by providing audiology subject matter expertise and providing back up in relation to speech-language pathology application reviews, as required.
Planning and Development
- Provides input from an audiology perspective on strategic, operational, regulatory, and registrant service initiatives, as required.
Professional Development
- Curates educational offerings for registrants and promotes awareness and attendance.
- Develops and hosts relevant regulatory webinars and other PD opportunities, as requested.
External Relationships
- Represents ACSLPA at relevant partner meetings, as requested.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent in Audiology.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience; experience with staff supervision/human resources management would be considered an asset.
- Registration in good standing with ACSLPA is required.
- Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) membership preferred.
- Alberta Association of Audiology (AAA) membership preferred.
- Experience developing and implementing programs, standards, policies, and processes is desirable.
- Experience curating professional development, training, and/or continuing competence programs is desirable.
- Experience working with diverse groups of partners.
- Training in administration and decision-making, trauma informed practice, and fairness in accordance with requirements in the Health Professions Act, Fair Registration Practices Act, and Labour Mobility Act would be an asset.
- Knowledge of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility principles is desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365.
