Individuals who:

  • graduated from an audiology or speech-language pathology program outside of Canada or the US,
  • graduated from a non-accredited Canadian or US program, or
  • are licensed and apply from an American jurisdiction where application requirements are not substantially equivalent to ACSLPA’s

are required to successfully complete a period of supervised practice to be registered with ACSLPA.

Individuals renewing their registration with ACSLPA who do not meet ACSLPA’s currency hours requirements may also be required to complete a period of supervised practice.

For new applicants:

Once your application and all necessary documentation has been reviewed by the Registration Committee, and any outstanding requirements have been completed, you will be eligible for conditional registration in order to complete a minimum 450 hour supervised practice under the supervision of an approved speech-language pathologist or audiologist.

For renewing regulated members:

The amount of supervised practice required will depend on the extent of your currency hours deficiency, as reported over the past five registration renewals. Please refer to the ACSLPA website: Currency Hour Requirements at Renewal.

NOTE: An approved supervisor must:

  • be on the ACSLPA General Register with a valid practice permit;
  • have a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in their respective profession with an understanding of the Alberta practice environment (preferably with a minimum of one year of recent experience practicing in Alberta);
  • be of good character and reputation;
  • be in good standing with ACSLPA and not be subject to any complaints or investigations at the time of the supervision; and
  • be approved as a supervisor by the Registrar

A supervised practice plan and midterm and final evaluation forms will be provided to both the supervisor(s) and the supervisee and must be reviewed and signed by all parties PRIOR to the commencement of the supervised practice period.
