Regulatory Colleges and Your Personal Information

February 2026

When an individual registers with ACSLPA, and then every year when they renew, they report and update personal information such as their birthdate, name, address, and employment record. This information is important for ACSLPA to have, for example, in order to communicate important updates about registration. However, ACSLPA also collects this information as part of legislative requirements in the Health Professions Act (HPA).

The first of these requirements is to maintain a Register of regulated members. Section 33(3) of the HPA outlines what must be entered in the Register, including information like the name and registrant number of members and if they have any conditions on their practice permit. The Register must be made available to the public, as its purpose is to report important information to the public, such as whether a practitioner is permitted to practice. If you visit acslpa.ca, you will find our Public Register.  ACSLPA will never release information beyond what is available on this Public Register to a member of the public without the consent of the regulated member, unless the disclosure is required by legislation or a Court.

The other requirement is outlined in section 122 of the Health Professions Act (HPA). Health Colleges in Alberta must provide their respective government Ministries with the information on their Register (outlined in section 33(3)) as well as information on registrant demographics, training and education, and employment (outlined in section 33(4)). This information is used to aid health workforce planning and to populate the Alberta Provider Directory (APD), also called the Provincial Provider Registry (PPR).

The APD is part of Alberta’s Electronic Health Record systems and acts as a source of health service provider information for registrants of all regulated health professional colleges in Alberta. You can learn more about the Provider Registry on the Government of Alberta website.

Specifically, ACSLPA is required to provide the following information to government Ministries

  • Similarly to addresses, the business phone/fax number of the organization you report as your employer is shared.
  • ACSLPA has records of your home and mobile phone/fax numbers. These are shared but are specifically tagged as personal telecommunication numbers that are not for disclosure.
