The Alberta Aphasia Camp is holding their 8th annual camp on September 18 – 19, 2021. We will again gather together on-line using Zoom as our platform.

Alberta Aphasia Camp is targeted at adults who are living with aphasia – both people with aphasia and family/friends. Campers will get to choose from activities, which are recreational (e.g., BINGO, dance, karaoke, games, movie appreciation, painting, etc) and therapeutic (e.g., conversation groups, stretching, yoga, stress management, therapy apps, etc). All activities are provided in a supported communication environment by professionals and volunteers trained in supportive communication strategies.

Registration forms are available now on our website (uab.ca/AphasiaCamp) and will be accepted until Friday, July 30th. The cost of attending the virtual Alberta Aphasia Camp is $40 and includes the cost of a camp t-shirt and camper kit (which includes materials/supplies for all activities).

Participants will need to download the Zoom software onto their computer, laptop, tablet or phone. We will send out aphasia-friendly instructions and are happy to do test calls with anyone in need of this prior to camp.

Last year, the virtual Alberta Aphasia Camp had 60 campers attending from Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta. This year, registration is again open to campers from across CANADA!

More information can be found at the Alberta Aphasia Camp website (uab.ca/AphasiaCamp), including answers to FAQs and videos from past camp years.

We are happy to answer any questions, especially for anyone who is hesitant to try this new platform. Questions can be directed to Andrea Ruelling at ruelling@ualberta.ca.

Thanks! Andrea Ruelling (R.SLP) and Esther Kim (R.SLP)
