Can I provide services to a client who is an Alberta resident who will be out of the province temporarily?

These are clients: Whose permanent address is in Alberta, and Who will be returning to Alberta after their stay out of the province. E.g., clients going on vacation to another province/territory in Canada or internationally, clients temporarily residing outside of Alberta for extended periods for family, school, work, or other obligations. ACSLPA does not require regulated members to become registered in the other province/territory or country in these situations, but we cannot speak for extra-jurisdictional regulators. Once a complaint is submitted, it is reviewed by the Complaints Director. The Complaints Director is an employee of the College who reviews, manages and addresses complaints. They are provided authority from the Health Professions Act to make certain decisions during the complaints process.  You will also receive a copy of the complaint made against you and the Complaints Director will contact you to discuss the complaint. What if the person I want to submit a complaint about is not registered with ACSLPA?

If you have a concern about a speech-language pathologist or audiologist registered in another province or another health care professional in Alberta, please contact the appropriate regulatory body. If the person you have a concern about is not registered with ACSLPA, or any other regulatory body, but they provided you with a health service, please contact the Complaints Director to discuss whether the person is practicing without proper registration.

Can ACSLPA accept a complaint about any speech-language pathologist or audiologist?

The College can accept complaints about speech-language pathologists or audiologists who are registered with ACSLPA, known as regulated members. The College can also accept complaints about speech-language pathologists or audiologists who were previously registered with ACSLPA if it has not been more than two (2) years since they were registered.

Practice permits issued to regulated members on the General Register expire December 31 and must be renewed for the upcoming registration year (January 1 - December 31). Renewal applications must be completed (including full payment) before 11:59 pm on December 31, otherwise your registration will be suspended. Renewal applications are completed online through the Member Portal. Applications that do not require the College's review are approved immediately upon payment in full. Registration/membership for all renewal categories will be suspended if not received on or before December 31; suspended registrations/memberships will be subject to a Reinstatement Fee. You may pay fees by Visa, Visa debit, MasterCard, American Express or e-transfer. There is a $30 payment processing fee for using a different payment method - please visit the Fee Schedule for more information. Your tax receipt is available in the Member Portal immediately upon payment in full.

Renewal Requirements

Professional Liability Insurance All members holding a practice permit, including those on the courtesy register providing a health service directly to the public, are required to hold their own PLI policy. Employer coverage is not acceptable.In addition to holding your own PLI: Requirements are for a minimum $2,000,000.00 coverage per occurrence An extended discovery and reporting period of a minimum of two years is necessary.
